Record Electricity Consumption Surge in Balearic Islands During July: What Does it Mean for Property Owners?

The Balearic Islands have recorded a significant increase in electricity demand during July, setting a new historical record. According to data released by Red Eléctrica, gross monthly consumption reached 834,069 MWh. This represents an adjusted rise of 11.8% compared to the same period last year, after accounting for working day effects and temperatures. In the first seven months of the year, cumulative electricity demand in the Balearics reached 3,756,240 MWh, marking a 4.4% increase over the same period last year. Regarding generation, combined cycle power plants were the primary source, contributing 57.5% of the energy. Gas turbines accounted for 13.1%, while photovoltaic energy showed a significant 21.7% growth in its monthly production, raising its share to 11.4%.It's important to note that overall renewable energy production increased by 17.7% year-on-year, covering 13.7% of the archipelago's total consumption in July.
