Mallorca: Sóller Mobilizes Against Mass Tourism with GOB and Menys Turisme Support

Sóller, Mallorca, is set to become the focal point of another significant citizen mobilization against the impacts of mass tourism next Saturday, August 8, 2026. Under the banner "Sóller al límit" (Sóller at the limit), this demonstration is strongly supported by the environmental organization GOB and the platform "Menys Turisme més vida," which have arranged logistics to facilitate attendance for residents across the island. To ensure broad participation, both organizations have chartered buses from key locations. Transport services will depart at 8:30 AM from Manacor, in front of the auditorium, and from Palma, next to Ocimax. The return journey from Sóller is scheduled for 1:00 PM. In total, the chartered vehicles can accommodate 74 individuals. The minibus departing from Manacor is already fully booked, as confirmed by Dani Comas, spokesperson for "Menys Turisme." Participants will share the transportation costs. Additionally, GOB has chartered a 55-seat bus for the route from Palma, with tickets available through ticket ibAlternatilla for €9 plus a €0.33 booking fee. The organizations reported challenges in directly chartering buses from Palma due to high demand and elevated prices during the peak tourist season, leading them to coordinate the use of GOB's bus and organize carpooling groups as an alternative. This call to action follows a massive demonstration in Palma just two weeks prior, which drew between 25,000 (police estimate) and 70,000 people (organizers' estimate), highlighting a growing social discontent. Dani Comas has warned of potential traffic congestion in Sóller, a town already experiencing daily jams. Guardia Civil officers from mainland Spain are expected to be present to manage traffic flow. No official expansion of public transport by TIB is planned for the day of the demonstration. The transport initiative by GOB and "Menys Turisme més vida" is vital in mobilizing citizens and reinforcing the message against the unsustainable pressure of tourism in Mallorca.
