Spain Launches 'Auto+' Subsidies for Electric and Electrified Vehicles

Spain is taking a significant leap towards sustainable transportation with the launch of the "Auto+" subsidy program, designed to incentivize the acquisition of electric and electrified vehicles. This comprehensive initiative, detailed in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on August 4, 2026, makes substantial funding available to both private citizens and, soon, businesses, aiming to electrify the nation's vehicle fleet.

The "Auto+" program, which carries a maximum budget of €350 million for its primary funding line, is a direct continuation of the successful "Plan Moves" incentives, with a total plan budget reaching €400 million. Importantly, these subsidies are retroactive to January 1 of the current year. The first line of funding, specifically for private individuals legally residing in Spain, allows applications from August 4, 2026, at 10:00 AM until December 31, 2:00 PM. Applicants must be adults and fulfill their tax obligations. This line offers €4,500 for electric passenger cars, €5,000 for vans, €1,100 for motorcycles, and €1,500 for quadricycles, applicable to new or nearly new vehicles up to twelve months old.

A second funding line, targeting the self-employed and businesses, is expected to open after the summer, completing the full rollout of the program. This line will provide even higher incentives, with up to €7,000 available for passenger cars and up to €12,000 for vans, subject to specific conditions. Beyond direct purchases, this line also extends support to financial leasing and renting options. The application process has been streamlined through a new telematic system by the Ministry of Industry, allowing submissions either personally or through dealerships and leasing companies. Required documentation includes the ITV certificate, DGT registration, bank details, and the vehicle purchase invoice.
