Techo Hogar and Banco Sabadell Boost Social Housing in Spain with Major Acquisition
Techo Hogar, a social impact SOCIMI also known as TuTechô, has taken a significant step forward in its mission to provide housing for vulnerable individuals. The company recently incorporated 23 new properties from Banco Sabadell into its portfolio, increasing its social housing stock to over 500 units across Spain. This acquisition, finalized at the end of July, not only expands TuTechô's capacity but also secures the continuation of 19 vital social programs run by various entities in ten Spanish provinces, including Alicante, Asturias, Burgos, Cantabria, Castellón, Las Palmas, Madrid, and Murcia.
This acquisition stands out for its collaborative approach and direct community impact. Banco Sabadell opted for a strategy that ensures the preservation of the social character of these homes, integrating them into a Social Benefit and Common Interest SOCIMI (SBIC) like TuTechô. This innovative model highlights how the financial sector can align with social inclusion objectives, demonstrating that it is possible to protect the social value of residential assets long-term and dedicate them to those who need them most. José Antonio Alarcón, Banco Sabadell's Real Estate Management Director, emphasized that this alliance "ensures the continuity of social projects that were already generating impact on the ground."
TuTechô celebrates this milestone as a reinforcement of its collaborative model with social organizations. Blanca Hernández, founder and president of the company, stated that surpassing 500 properties is important, but the fundamental aspect is "expanding our capacity to support social entities and accompany more people in their processes of inclusion and autonomy." Rocío del Mar Álvarez, TuTechô's General Director, added that this agreement "serves as an inspiration for how the financial sector can become a structural ally in the fight against homelessness and residential exclusion." For property owners and the broader real estate market, such initiatives are crucial, fostering greater social stability and a more equitable housing environment, thus benefiting all market players by promoting a more resilient and socially responsible sector. Each home represents an opportunity to build stable life projects and regain independence.
